What is included on a Royal Caribbean cruise?

A Royal Caribbean cruise includes accommodation and a substantial onboard programme. It does not automatically include every drink, restaurant, activity or service you see advertised.

Build your plans around the included experience

The useful starting point is what a normal day would look like without packages: breakfast, time ashore or at the pool, lunch, dinner and entertainment. On Royal Caribbean, there is enough within the standard experience to plan that day. The question is which additions would genuinely improve it for your party.

Included foundations and optional additions
AreaIncluded foundationWhat needs a separate decision
AccommodationYour booked cabin and its standard services. The precise category, outlook, occupancy and suite benefits.
MealsMain Dining Room, Windjammer and the ship’s complimentary casual venues.Specialty restaurants and items identified as additional purchases.
DrinksA selection of basic drinks such as water, tea and classic coffee.Alcohol, premium coffees, bottled drinks and beverage packages.
EntertainmentThe main programme of shows, live entertainment and many recreational facilities.Selected activities, lessons, arcade games and other separately booked experiences.
ChildrenThe regular included youth programme appropriate to the child’s age.Nursery care and some late sessions; arrangements depend on the ship.
ConnectivityOnboard planning features in the Royal Caribbean app.Internet access through a VOOM plan; an app connection is not general internet access.
Other servicesThe facilities and services specified in the booking.Spa treatments, excursions, transport and applicable gratuities or service charges.

For parents, nursery care and children’s club arrangements determine whether the included programme fits the family’s day; a package name alone cannot answer that question.

Dining packages are a preference, not a prerequisite

The main dining room gives the evening a seated, served structure; Windjammer is useful when a group wants different dishes or a more flexible meal. Casual venues vary by ship. A family should identify those locations before assuming that everyone needs a specialty meal to enjoy the food.

Chops Grille and Izumi are examples of specialty venues. Compare the actual restaurants on your chosen vessel and the reservation conditions of a package. A package is less useful if it encourages bookings on evenings when you would rather watch a show or spend longer ashore. The Allure dining guide shows how a real ship’s restaurant choices fit together.

Drinks: match the package to your routine

Separate three habits: drinking alcohol, ordering premium non-alcoholic drinks, and mainly using the included selection. A soda-focused plan does not cover the same range as Refreshment, and Deluxe has its own terms. Cabin-wide purchase requirements and excluded products matter as much as the headline package name.

List what you would normally order on a sea day and on a port day. A full-day excursion reduces time spent using a shipboard package. Do not turn the package into a target that dictates how much you drink; compare it with your usual behaviour.

Understand the account before adding extras

Onboard purchases are recorded through SeaPass. Review the account during the cruise, while a charge is still easy to identify. Distinguish daily gratuities from a service charge attached to a particular purchase and from any additional voluntary tip; they are not three names for the same transaction.

If your plans change after purchase, check how changes affect the cruise and prepaid extras separately. For internet, choose according to the number of simultaneous connections you need. One person checking messages is a different use case from several family members connecting at once. Make a meeting plan that does not depend on everyone having internet all day.

Suites and private destinations need their own reading

The word suite does not make every booking all-inclusive. Royal Suite Class has different levels, and benefits depend on the exact category and vessel. Read the list attached to the accommodation you are buying instead of borrowing the benefits of a higher tier. Returning passengers should also distinguish Crown & Anchor privileges from suite benefits before purchasing overlapping extras.

Likewise, visiting CocoCay does not require buying every extra there. Beaches, pools and food options can form a day of their own; paid experiences are a separate choice. Choose the experience you want ashore before adding optional activities.
