Royal Caribbean booking changes and cancellation: what to check

The cancellation conditions belong to your booking: its country of sale, fare and seller. Start with those documents before using a general online timetable.

Find the terms that apply to your reservation

A Royal Caribbean cruise can be sold in different markets, directly or through a travel adviser, with different fare conditions. An online cancellation table for another country is not a reliable substitute for the contract attached to your confirmation. Identify the selling entity, the fare type and the applicable terms together.

Keep the version supplied when you booked. If a webpage later changes, your saved documents help establish what was offered and agreed. Where a travel adviser arranged the reservation, ask them to explain both the cruise line’s conditions and any separate agency conditions.

Deposits, final payment and cancellation are separate questions

What to locate on your booking documents
ItemQuestion to answerWhy it matters
DepositIs it refundable, and under which fare conditions?Cancelling before final payment does not necessarily recover it.
Final paymentWhat is the deadline shown by the seller? The seller’s collection date may need to be distinguished from other dates advertised online.
CancellationWhich timetable applies and when must notice be received?A request sent near a deadline needs a clear record and confirmation.
ChangesIs the proposed change an amendment or a cancellation and new booking?Changing a date, ship or traveller can have different consequences.
Travel extrasWhat separate conditions apply to flights, hotels and transfers?Cancelling the cabin does not automatically cancel every other arrangement.

If you need to change the booking

Describe the exact change before agreeing to it. A spelling correction, substituting a traveller, moving the sailing date and changing ship are different requests. Ask for the proposed arrangement in writing, including what remains from the original booking and what will be replaced.

Before accepting a cabin change, compare the category, bedding and location. A room for the same number of people can have a different night-time layout. Families can use the bed layouts and connecting-room advice for families to avoid solving a date problem while creating an accommodation problem.

If you need to cancel

  1. Locate the booking reference, confirmation and applicable conditions.
  2. Contact the booking channel responsible for the reservation.
  3. Ask for the cancellation position as of the date the request will be received.
  4. Obtain written confirmation that the cancellation has been processed.
  5. Track the cruise, flights, hotels and prepaid onboard purchases separately.

Keep a dated record of messages and receipts. If a refund or credit is due, establish its form, recipient and conditions rather than treating those outcomes as interchangeable. A credit for future travel is useful only if its restrictions fit a trip you can take.

Insurance and a change of mind are not the same thing

Read the events covered by the policy and the evidence needed for a claim. Do not assume that being unable or unwilling to travel is automatically insured. If there is a potential claim, contact the insurer promptly and retain the documents they request alongside the booking records.

Missing travel documents or failing a boarding requirement is also different from the cruise line cancelling a sailing. Prepare the documents and party details well before departure; the travel-document and embarkation checklist helps organise those checks.

If the cruise line changes the trip

A missed port, a revised itinerary, a delayed departure and a cancelled voyage are different events. Read the notice for the specific change, including the options and response deadline. If flights or hotels were purchased separately, establish their position independently instead of assuming they follow the cruise outcome.

When comparing a replacement sailing, establish the new booking’s dining and service inclusions. A different ship can mean different facilities even if the cruise length is unchanged.
